About the art

Inspiration for the plate comes from the lush greenery of Oregon, Portland’s nickname of the Rose City, and the Asian elephant: an iconic species that represents the incredible conservation work happening at the zoo and around the globe.

Artist Jeremy Nichols’ stunning mural work can be seen around Oregon and beyond, often employing bold colors and realistic animals, using his platform to encourage the preservation of the natural world around us.

Almost halfway there!

FAQs

How does Oregon's license plate voucher process work?
Your purchase of a license plate voucher is a transaction between you and the Oregon Zoo Foundation. To qualify the plate for production, the foundation must guarantee a minimum of 3,000 vouchers. The plate is officially produced by the Driver and Motor Vehicle (DMV) Services Division of the Oregon Department of Transportation.

When will I receive my voucher and Oregon Zoo license plate?
During the pre-order process, the foundation will retain all vouchers until the minimum 3,000 voucher sales are met. Buyers will be notified when that happens, and again when the foundation is informed of the official production date from the DMV.

Vouchers will be mailed to the buyers closer to the production release date. The voucher can then be redeemed at any Oregon DMV location.

How do I redeem my voucher?
Once the plate is officially in production, take your mailed voucher to any Oregon DMV location to redeem it for your plates. You must complete the appropriate DMV form(s) and pay registration and any other Oregon DMV fees due.  For more information, please refer to the DMV website.

How much does the Oregon Zoo plate cost?
In addition to regular title, registration, and plate fees, the specialty Oregon Zoo plate has a $40 surcharge due when first ordered and at each registration renewal. The voucher is your proof of first payment of the $40 surcharge with the DMV.

Can I customize my Oregon Zoo plate?
Yes! Your plate may be customized for an additional fee. More information

Can I transfer my current custom plate configuration to a custom Oregon Zoo plate?
Yes! You can maintain your current custom configuration on an Oregon Zoo plate for an additional fee through the DMV.

I do not live in or have a registered vehicle in the state of Oregon. Can I purchase a souvenir plate?
Oregon Zoo plates are only available for passenger vehicles registered in the State of Oregon. Souvenir or sample plates are not available.

Can I give a license plate voucher as a gift?
Yes, it is possible to give the Oregon Zoo plate voucher as a gift to a recipient that also has a passenger vehicle registered in Oregon. Once you receive the mailed voucher, sign as “Purchaser” and complete the bottom “Transfer of Voucher” section in the name of the person receiving the gift. Be sure that you also sign as “Transferor” in this section.

When will the new Oregon Zoo license plate be available at the DMV?
The plate will not go into production until the foundation sells 3,000 vouchers. Help us meet that goal!
We will notify you once we have sold all vouchers and again when we have an official production date from the DMV.
